Kjartan Holm is an Icelandic composer and a musician with a broad background in various fields in music. He graduated from Iceland Academy of the Arts in spring 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in composition under guidance from Icelandic composer Atli Ingólfsson. He has worked with a diverse group of composers including Sigur Rós, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Paul Corley and Egill Sæbjörnsson.
Kjartan worked closely with Jóhann Jóhannsson in Berlin and contributed to movies such as ‘Mandy’ (2018) and ‘Mary Magdalene’ (2018), a film with original music by Jóhann and Hildur Guðnadóttir. The same year he worked closely with Hildur Guðnadóttir on the film ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ (2018) which recently got nominated for the World Soundtrack Awards as ‘Discovery of the year.’
Recently Kjartan has been, in collaboration with Sigur Rós and Paul Corley been working with startup tech company Magic Leap on creating ‘Tónandi’ - a mixed reality experience only available through certain headsets provided by the same company. In the experience the user is visible to sounds, music and interactive algorithms where the world of sounds was created by Paul Corley, Sigur Rós and Kjartan Holm.
Kjartan is finishing his first record under his own name which will be out 2019.
